Drunk Driving Penalties Increase in WI

Wisconsin less tough on a drunk drivers

Wisconsin, compared to other states, continues to be less tough on drunk drivers, especially for first offenses.  However, because drunk driving contributes to nearly half of the fatal accidents in our state, there seems to be more action towards fixing the problem;  recent laws have become more tough.

Repeat drunken drivers in Wisconsin

Those who are caught drunk driving repeatedly will face tougher penalties in 2017 compared to what had previously been in place.  For example, new laws recently signed by governor Scott Walker state that the fourth drunk driving offense is an automatic felony, no matter when it is committed.  There were also increases in sentences involving the fifth thru tenth or subsequent drunk driving offenses.  More information regarding WI drunk driving laws.
